Who can become a volunteer?

Current volunteers are from all age groups and come from many different backgrounds.
However, each one must:

What happens once I have phoned the office?

One of the co-ordinators will contact you to arrange an informal interview. You will need to provide the names of two referees and documents will be checked to Enhanced level through the Criminal Records Bureau.

What training will I receive?

Before our volunteers are introduced to a family they undertake our Preparation Course. This is a fun and informal course designed to prepare volunteers for working with families. It runs for one day (9.45 – 2.25) or evening (6.30 – 9.30) a week over 10 weeks and covers topics such as Values and Attitudes, Active Listening, Confidentiality, Child Protection, Local Support Networks and Commitment and Boundaries.

What happens after the course?

After considering the time you have available and your interests or experience you will be introduced to a family. You will be expected to visit each week to provide the type of support that family needs. You will be supervised by a co-ordinator who will support you through the whole period of your volunteering. There will also be opportunities to take part in further training and group supervision.

Family Groups more

Our groups exist to provide a welcoming environment for families who may feel uncomfortable attending larger groups.

Our volunteers are vital because they give parents a listening ear, help with the children, make the teas and coffees and help to set up and clear away the toys.

We currently run groups in Broadfield and Tilgate in Crawley and in Billingshurst.
