Spring Newsletter – April 2006

This is the time we all start looking to the future. Spring is upon us and Summer will not be far behind. (Don’t hold your breath!)

Home-Start families and their volunteers will be able to get out and about a bit more – into the parks (not the shops) and the fresh air. Remember, Home-Start is all about families and volunteers doing things together!  We hope the weather holds so that you can enjoy your shared time, either in the big outdoors or the privacy of your garden.

Here at the office we are looking forward to meeting you all either at Springboard in Horsham where we shall be having a summer picnic or at Tilgate Park in Crawley. Later, of course, there'll be the Annual Day Out in August... (Details to follow)

You will be pleased to know that the scheme continues to provide support for a growing number of families, and of course, further opportunities for volunteers to spend their spare time in a meaningful way. We are extremely grateful for everyone’s contribution to the success of the scheme. In particular we would like to mention those volunteers who recently received Long Service Awards. (see picture below)

The families we help always express their deep appreciation –and over the years many have benefited enormously by the sustained interest and commitment of these dedicated volunteers.

To every one of you either visiting on a weekly basis, helping with the Family Groups or the Management ...……..very many thanks!

Do you know a friendly landlord?

We are looking for pub landlords and landladies who might be interested in running a couple of quiz nights to raise money for Home-Start.

We will provide sheets of questions, we hope that the pub will provide a small voucher as a prize and the proceeds are donated to Home-Start.

Please ask, or ask a ‘regular’ to ask in local pubs and then let us know.

We need more money to help more families

Co-op Dividends

Do you collect dividend points? Would you be prepared to contribute them to Home-Start?

We are looking at a scheme where this could happen but we need to know how many people could become involved.

Please give us a bell –as they say

Thank You To …..

GATWICK AIRPORT PANTOMIME SOCIETY

We want to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the members of GAPS and to our many volunteers who helped to raise the magnificent sum of £8,500 for Home-Start.

Such a lot of hard work went into the event— weekly rehearsals, costume and set designs, thousands of raffle tickets sold, an impressive VIP area on the Saturday and lucky dips for children and adults alike.

The whole thing was really well-organised and everyone who watched the show (all the houses were packed) said they had a great time.

All began when Jan, our administrator, explained Home-Start’s work to her friend Olive. Olive visited the office and was so impressed with the support our volunteers gave to local families that she nominated us as a potential beneficiary to the GAPS committee.

Olive is also helping us to put together the Concert in October. She has a great deal of enthusiasm and experience in this area as she spent many years helping to organise the GAPS production.  We know that she will help us to put on a good night’s entertainment!
